political activist Dr Charles Perkins aka Charlie
Perkins who led the Freedom Rides in the 1970s, will be
screened at 10am by the Support Group at Collaroy Cinema,
Collaroy Beach. Made in 2009, this biopic is directed by Ivan
Sen, Berlin Film Festival award winner for his acclaimed film

Guest Speakers. Pittwater Council and the Aboriginal Support
Group - Manly Warringah Pittwater present ‘A Northern Town’ – a
documentary by Rachel Landers and Dylan Blowen. Kempsey is a town haunted by the ghosts of it’s past. As the white witnesses to this history have grown old, many have found themselves doing what they never could have imagined: moving in with aboriginal people. A Northern Town peels back more than 100 years of history as the residents of Booroongen - both black and white – relate tales that lay bare the truth of history and break the tragic divisions of the past. theme incorporates embracing diversity, promoting harmony and
ensuring sustainability. Entertainment will include dance
performances from many cultures, a special kids program,
entertainment, stalls, interactive workshops and discussion
forums. In preparation for this Festival and the Parade of
Light, Pittwater Council is hosting two free community workshops

film, Liyarn Ngarn, a moving story of culture,
identity and land. Patrick Dodson, who co-produced the film,
will be there for the evening, together with the acclaimed
British actor Pete Postlethwaite, who tells the story of the
film. They will be joined by Indigenous songman Archie Roach,
whose presence adds such depth of feeling to the documentary.
This will certainly be an extraordinary evening. There is no
charge for the event: it is a particular treat for the ANTaR
network, and to rekindle the fire in our bellies. If interested

Larissa is a Professor of Law and Director of Research at the Jumbunna Indigenous House of Learning at the University of Technology, Sydney.
